Background

CERM3 has entered into a collaborative arrangement with the new Pacific Centre for Isotopic and Geochemical Research" (PCIGR) in the department of Earth and Ocean Science. PCIGR is an innovative approach to major analytical facilities that is based at UBC but also involves researchers from Simon Fraser University, the University of Victoria, the University of Alberta, and several other institutions. PCIGR is now a reality with lab construction completed this summer and the five new mass spectrometers up and running.

CFI agreed to fund two High Resolution Mass Spectrometers - one for PCIGR and the other for our EQL Environmental Quality Lab) facility. Rather than installing two similar units at UBC, the two new centres agreed to share in the use of all facilities and purchase an additional unit dedicated to stable isotope analyses.
