Mining Engineering is concerned with the extraction and processing of ores containing valuable minerals or metals. It is one of the most critical contributors to social and economic life.

Within Canada mining is the third most important industry in dollar value, and globally the Canadian mining industry is the second largest in the world.

The industry as a whole is becoming increasingly international and as this occurs, graduates of the Mining Engineering program at UBC are taking their places among the most skilled and respected leaders of the mining industry — both within Canada and around the world.

" The leadership and expertise of our graduates, as well as the solutions from our research, will be much in demand in the coming years.

--Malcolm Scoble "
