Mining Engineering is concerned with the extraction and processing of ores containing valuable minerals or metals. It is one of the most critical contributors to social and economic life.

The NBK Institute of Mining Engineering has complete Undergraduate and Graduate Programs, in addition to offering an innovative Life Long Learning for practicing professionals.

To become an mining engineer requires gaining a thorough knowledge of general engineering principles followed by studying courses specific to mining and mineral processing.

These courses are designed to cover a wide and diverse range of subjects in order to meet the challenges that will faced in the mining industry.

The Department of Mining Engineering at UBC has made a commitment to fostering responsible mining practices. We are dedicated to producing mining engineers that are able to meet the complex challenges of an ever-changing world.

Our support of a cross-discipline approach to mining is making a dramatic difference by:

  • reducing environmental impact during mining operations
  • increasing mineral extractions
  • increasing the rate of land reclamation upon completion of mineral extraction

The Department is committed to networking with industry, government, and other universities to promote jobs for our students, distance learning, lifelong learning, and on-going, cutting edge research into the development of advanced, clean, integrated mining systems.
